10 Rotate the rod a quarter turn to position the next face on top, and then file another row of identical notches that line up with the preceding row. Again, start the notches with a few strokes of the jeweler’s saw if you have difficulty starting them.

11 Continue in this way until all four faces of the rod are faceted. Take care not to press down too hard when filing the last face of the rod, as the thinner filed metal bridges between the non-filed sections may snap if too much pressure is applied.
